- Work interactively and flexibly with the client:
we know that the formal brief is often not the underlying question or true nature of the problem. Our response evolves as the joint understanding of the issues develops.
- Ensure that the answer is actionable:
as far as possible, we engage with operating management, to get their input and buy-in to the eventual outcome. We ensure that any model output is addressing actual business issues, and that management can run the models themselves, often through workshops.
- Apply a broad range of analytical and modelling skills to make the data talk:
most business issues can be addressed through models that simulate the likely consequences of alternative actions and assumptions. Building interactive strategic business models is a core TLE expertise. These are usually in the form of Excel-based spreadsheets, but can equally well be simple analytic frameworks.
- Make sense of half formed ideas and incomplete data:
evaluating alternatives and making decisions is difficult enough, even if all the required "hard" data is available. TLE's strength in this area, extends to developing reliable frameworks, using proxies for missing data and incorporating “soft” data - your judgements and “feelings”.
- Build on the learning from successive projects and transfer model improvements from client to client:
we don’t believe in re-discovering the wheel for every new project. We apply and adapt existing concepts wherever possible. Having a core of ongoing non-competing clients enables us to deliver continuous model improvement, bringing in experience from different businesses.
- Focus on a number of themes common to clients:
quantifying and segmenting opportunities, helping to set and sequence priorities, and allowing the user to unpick the answer.
- …. and above all, try to be practical:
by being awake as to what is happening around us, and bringing that knowledge to bear in proposed solutions
